Sequencing batch reactor (SBR) and sequencing batch airlift reactor (SBAR) with the formation of aerobic granules

چکیده
This research examined novel configuration of SBAR in lab-scale for industrial wastewater treatment. To evaluate COD removal efficiency and granules formation of the novel reactor (R1), SBAR system (R2) was operated under similar conditions during the experimental period. R1 and R2 with working volume of 3.6 and 4.5 L were used to cultivate aerobic granules. Both reactors were operated for 4 hr/cycle. Experiments were done at different OLRs ranging from 0.6 to 4.5 Kg COD/m.d for R1 and from 0.72 to 5.4 Kg COD/m.d for R2. After 150-day operation, large-sized black filamentous granules with diameters of 0.5-2 and 2-11 mm were formed in R1 and R2, respectively. In the second part of the experiment, the removal efficiency of toxic aniline by aerobic granules was investigated. It was found that COD removal efficiency of the novel airlift reactor was over 97 and 94.5 percent using glucose and aniline carbon source, respectively. Keywords— Aerobic granules, Aniline removal efficiency, Sequencing batch airlift reactor, Sludge volume index.

Evaluation of sequencing batch reactor performance for petrochemical wastewater treatment
Sequencing batch reactor (SBR) technology has found many applications in industrial wastewater treatment in recent years. The aim of this study was to determine the optimal time for a cycle of the sequencing batch reactor (SBR) and evaluate the performance of a SBR for petrochemical wastewater treatment in that cycle time. The reactor was operated with a suspended biomass configuration under ae...
متن کاملSequencing Batch Reactor Operation for Treating Wastewater with Aerobic Granular Sludge
In this work, the performance of a sequencing batch reactor (SBR) on aerobic granular sludge was studied for urban wastewater treatment. The system was inoculated with aerobic activated sludge collected from a wastewater treatment plant and, after 30 days of operation, the first granules observed had an average diameter of 0.1 mm. The biomass concentration reached a maximum value around 4 g VSS...
متن کاملInfluence of three selection pressures on aerobic granulation in sequencing batch reactor
Aerobic granulation is a promising biotechnology for wastewater treatment. The formation and development of granules and the pollutant removal are closely associated with hydrodynamic shear force, settling time and volume exchange ratio (VER), which are proved to be the selection pressures. Three different values of shear force (2, 3 and 4 cm/s), settling time (3, 5 and 10 min) and VER (25, 50 ...
متن کاملDevelopment of aerobic granules in sequencing batch reactor with p-nitrophenol as sole carbon source
The present study was aimed at the development of aerobic granules in sequencing batch reactor (SBR) for the biodegradation of p-nitrophenol (PNP). The reactor was started with 50 mg L 1 of PNP. Aerobic granules first appeared within 1 month of the start up of the reactor. The granules were large and strong and had a compact structure. The diameter of stable granules on day 200 was in the range...
